Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club, also known as Deal, is a Club steeped in history. In 120 years the Club has evolved from a 9 hole course in to the 18 hole Championship Links venue that exists today running along the coast of Sandwich Bay on the same stretch of coastline as Royal St George’s Golf Club and Prince’s Golf Club. Founded in 1892, the name derives from Deal’s membership of an ancient group of trading towns granted special privileges by the medieval English monarchs, known as the Cinque Ports. The Club has been the scene of many Championships, including two Open Championships in 1909 and 1920. The Club hosted the Amateur Championship in 2013 and is one of four Final Open Qualifying venues from 2014-2017. The course is a classic out and back with a spine of sand dunes across which one is required to play, rather than through them. Deal is not a dramatic course, but there is always ‘something in the way’ to ensure that one never has an easy shot. The fairways have sweeping undulations and flat stances are few.
