The layout at the Osaka Golf Club is the work of Osamu Ueda in his youth. He undertook the task of creating a new course a little less than fifty miles southwest of the historic commercial port city of Osaka in 1938, having been inspired by Charles H. Alison’s achievement at Hirono. In certain aspects the Osaka is set on better ground than is that legendary club: it is nearer to the ocean, and looks out over Osaka Bay. The landscape would have been fairly desolate when Ueda went to work on it, but the many trees that were being planted at the time have since matured, adding to the aesthetic appeal and providing some shelter from the elements, particularly along the fairways.
